Hotel in the Rubber Grove
The hotel is situated within a two-rai abandoned rubber grove the only resource on this landlocked site in Phuket. A three-meter-wide structure stretches along the existing rows of trees, wrapped in burlap sheets coated with natural latex.
Above the building, under the tree canopy, a series of patterned glass "hats" are placed on top. These glass elements reveal the treetops and allow the light, color, and shifting atmosphere of the grove to enter the interior, even within the bedrooms.
The rubber trees are the sole beauty and resource of the site. Together, the architecture and the grove create a specific sense of place, transforming a neglected piece of land into something of value. This project serves as a question to Phuket: beyond the coastline, what overlooked resources are still hidden on this island
